Why are we developing Evelina?

Evelina Children’s Hospital opened in October 2005. It was designed to improve the experience of coming to hospital for children and their families. During the project planning stages, children, their families and staff were consulted widely and – importantly – all groups were involved in the decision making process during the project.

The building is now celebrating its fifth birthday and we recognise that how it works will change over time. So the Developing Evelina project will explore how the hospital can be improved to meet current needs and future use. This helps us to make sure that the important principles created with our children, their families and our staff as part of the original design can be reinforced, revitalised and developed further.

The project has the support of the Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity who provided a substantial amount of the capital funding for the original building.
