Professor Andrew J Deeks (Jury Chair)
Professor Andrew J Deeks is the President of University College Dublin, Ireland’s largest and most globally engaged university. He is responsible for the University’s overall direction, in consultation with the Governing Authority, and, in accordance with the Universities Act, manages and directs the University in its academic, administrative, financial, personnel and other activities. Under his leadership the University published a Strategy for 2015-2020, setting out a clear vision for ensuring UCD is known around the world as Ireland’s Global University, and this strategy is currently being successfully pursued.
He is highly respected for his research in structural mechanics, structural dynamics and dynamic soil structure interaction. His strong commitment to students is acknowledged in the awards he holds for teaching excellence and innovation. Previously, he was Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Science, at Durham University, where he led the development of their global strategy and extensive international and industry partnerships.
