The Reimagining the Dallas Museum of Art initiative focuses on revitalizing the DMA’s campus to better serve the diverse city of Dallas. The Museum aims to strengthen its work with its communities, create stronger civic connections, transform the visitor experience with new facilities, and expand education and gallery space.
One hundred and fifty-four teams from 27 countries applied to lead the architectural transformation of the Museum. In April 2023, the DMA’s Architect Selection Committee shortlisted six teams to create the concept designs shown below.
The ASC met in July 2023 to interview the finalists; and on August 3, 2023, the DMA announced that the team led by Madrid-based practice Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos had won the competition.
The Museum’s brief to the six teams was to give the campus greater physical visibility and transparency, show visitors what is going on inside, and make the DMA more welcoming and accessible to all. The project is underpinned by a thorough modernization and thoughtful sustainability strategy.
These concept designs are on display in a free presentation at the DMA (Mezzanine Level 2), through Fall, 2023.
