MADE IN BRITAIN — Architecture & Design Competition. We want to create a pavilion sensation for the UK that will: leave a lasting and positive impression of Britain in 2010, demonstrate UK partnership with China and speak to a wide cross-section of Chinese visitors. In form, interior and content, the pavilion should showcase the best of British design, creativity and technology while allowing a smooth flow of up to 50,000 people per day, including families with small children. Easy access, good viewing and a memorable experience are critical. We sought expressions of interest from combined teams of architects, designers and curators; a shortlist of six teams were then invited to take part in the design competition. Each is to develop proposals for the pavilion which will then be judged in late summer 2007, following a public exhibition at the V&A.
