The search for an architect to design Lithuania’s new €25 million National Science and Innovation Centre attracted extensive international interest both from architects and the media. One hundred and forty-four entries were received from forty-four countries, representing an amazingly diverse set of architectural proposals. The quality of the schemes greatly impressed the high-profile international jury.

On 30 September 2016 the Prime Minister of Lithuania announced the three winning architects, and following a negotiation process one of these will be appointed by Kaunas City Municipality to develop their concept through to completion on site. Science Island is scheduled to open in 2018.
