Canterbury Cathedral Landscape Design Competition

Canterbury was created as a destination for worship, learning and discovery. The Dean and Chapter are committed to improving the experience of all who journey there. They are focused on conserving the exceptional heritage of this Grade I listed architectural masterpiece, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Equally, they want to share the inspiration and enthusiasm of the many people who have, through time, shaped the Cathedral. Behind the magnificent facades and treasures, it's these lives and stories, which speak to visitors from all backgrounds, and make their experience memorable.

As the Cathedral's 'front-of-house', the setting makes an important contribution to the visitor experience. Last remodelled in the late 1940's, it requires a sensitive update.

This competition seeks to find the best team to re-think the existing landscape. Initially, Expressions of Interest are sought, following which, five teams will be shortlisted.

The design competition is made possible through a gift from Peter Baldwin and Lisbet Rausing. It is being managed on behalf of Canterbury Cathedral by Malcolm Reading Consultants.
